Ybl204 - Mahler and his age
A few years ago, we commemorated the bicentenary of the birth of a legendary Hungarian architect, a great admirer of the Italian Renaissance, whose eternal bequest to posterity was not only the Opera House itself, but also included other Budapest landmarks like the Castle Garden Bazaar, the Basilica and the Danubius Fountain on Erzsébet Square.

The guests at the event were themselves engineers and architects, and ever since we've tried to make the Ybl concert into a celebration of the architectural profession. Taking place a few days before the concert will be the presentation of the Ybl Awards, Hungary's highest professional recognitions in the field, making this festive event an opportunity to applaud the winner. Prior to the concert, representatives from the Opera and the Ybl Society will be laying a wreath by the commemorative tablet on the side of the neo-Renaissance opera house, accompanies by the sound of Italian Renaissance tower music.
