A műben „olyan egyéniség nyilatkozik meg, akinek teljesen új közölnivalója van, és aki képes arra, hogy azt mesteri, koncentrált formában tudassa velünk. Az egész mű rendkívül gazdag dallamokban, amelyeknek egzotikus vonásain a régi magyar paraszti rubato erős hatása mutatkozik meg. Úgy kell tekinteni ezt a kompozíciót, hogy ez a magyarság valódi modern kulturális terméke.” A Társasköri Kamara Kodály-Mozart-Dvořák-estjén az egyik kompozíció nagyvonalú dedikációja így szól: „Nemzetemnek”.
