This year the traditional Pas de quatre night will be preceded by a presentation of the DanceTrend programme, in which contemporary dancers, arrangers, choreographers and independent companies get a chance to introduce themselves. In the second half of the programme, audiences will get to know the work of one of the Hungarian National Ballet’s young choreographers.

Yvette Bozsik / Christoph Willibald Gluck: Orfeo (excerpt)

Choreographer: Yvette Bozsik
Choreographer’s assistant: Szilveszter Székely
Costume designer: Mara Bozóki
Visual concept: József Pető
Film: Marcell Iványi, Kristóf Becsey
Creative producer: Marcell Iványi

The work dissects the essential questions of life, death, love, perseverance and faith from the perspective of individual responsibility. Keeping faith with our word, our pledges and ourselves, practising what we preach, despite all difficulties, and an allegory of hope.
Orfeo ed Euridice has also been staged by Yvette Bozsik’s two great role models, and thus her choreography is a tribute to them: an hommage to and remembrance of the work of Pina Bausch and Mary Wigman.

Budapest Dance Theatre: SEC

Choreographer: Lóránd Zachár
The Soul: Dzsenifer Vattai
The Body: Alexandra Sághy

The mystery of birth and death raises eternal and unanswerable questions for us. We are part of death from the moment of our conception, and we proceed towards our fate stuck in the unavoidable vortex of time. Under normal conditions, there is no cause that could explain these processes, and no will that could influence them.
We are not the ones who decide about our life and death.
Therefore, there might exist a huge collection of knowledge, an infinite thought that organises the physical necessity or superfluity of our existence in a world that it has created. We, human beings can only be fragments of an incomprehensibly huge intelligence, carriers of thoughts, who can expand the boundaries of the Universe with more and more new experience.
At the end of our physical existence, the film of our lives rolls before our eyes. For our Creator, the immense knowledge, perhaps this is the moment that is really important because it is then that we shoot toward it the experience of our entire lives in the spark of our final thought.
