Ki tudná megmondani, a világ bármely táján hány hasonló, középkorú asszony ismer magára Shirley sorsában. Hányan és hányszor gondoltak arra, hogy ki kellene lépni a háztartás és a házasság monotóniájából, a megúnt háziasszonyi és családanyai szerepből és elmenni messzire. Mindent otthagyni és új életet kezdeni. Megkeresni régi énünket és mai igazibb önmagunkat.
Shirley Valentine az 1988-as londoni ősbemutató óta bejárta a világot. Színdarabban és amerikai filmben egyaránt.
