Ez a mese azért marad örök klasszikus, mert a minden emberben kitörölhetetlenül megbúvó, élő vágyat testesíti meg: visszavágyást a gyerekkor csodákkal, kalandokkal teli világába. A Darling család – a szülők, Wendy és két öccse –, Pán Péter és nyugtalan tündére, Csingiling, a fő gonosz Hook kapitány: ők valamennyien szinte személyes ismerőseink, akár a regény, akár valamelyik színpadi feldolgozás vagy film formájában találkoztunk velük.
