The Opera started planning the partial modernisation of the Opera House and the unit in Hajós utca used to service it in 2014. In line with government decisions made in 2015 and 2016, the Ybl Palace was closed in the summer of 2017, just as planned. As the work progressed, the partial update was transformed into a full renovation, as per the intent of the government. However, instead of a single season, this required almost five seasons of patience from artists, employees, and audiences. By the Ides of March in 2022, the Opera House will have turned 138 years old and will be ready to relaunch official operations with a celebratory concert.
