Hrabal édesanyja alakján keresztül énekli meg egy letűnt világ krónikáját. Azét a világét, ami nekünk is ismerős lehet nagy- és dédszüleink elbeszéléseiből, és amit csak itt érthetünk meg igazán Kelet-Közép-Európában. Előadásunk ott kezdődik, ahol mindez véget ér.1949-et írunk, és a nymburki sörgyár sem kerülheti el a sorsát: államosítják.„A múltat végképp eltörölni” eszméje indexre tesz mindent és mindenkit a boldog békeidőkből. Lomtárba kerül Francin és Pepin bácsi is. Ekkor jön Mariska, vagyis Hrabal-anyu, és azt teszi, amit a lelkiismerete diktál: emlékezik. És hála mindent megelevenítő képzeletének, a sörgyár újra élni kezd.

A century ago, the world first encountered this remarkable opus, a work that soon became one of the cornerstones of twentieth-century musical innovation. Premiered in 1926, the singspiel is a milestone in Hungarian music history: its composer, Zoltán Kodály, fulfilled his aspiration to elevate Hungarian folk song of ancient origin to the same status as classical music, by virtue of its equivalent values, placing it on the stage of the nation’s Opera House.

For the 14th time, the performance of the famous Symphony No. 9 will dominate the OPERA’s New Year celebrations. In 2027, the programme will be completed by two further classical works: Beethoven’s overture, also enhanced by Mahler, and a cello concerto by Haydn, the latter of course featuring an OPERA soloist.
