Roland Schimmelpfennig ma a világszerte legtöbbet játszott kortárs német drámaíró. 1967-ben Göttingenben született. 1990-ben a müncheni Otto Falkenberg Schule rendezői szakán kezdte meg tanulmányait. A diploma megszerzése után a müncheni Kammerspiele rendezőasszisztense, majd ezt követően a művészeti vezetés tagja. Jelenleg a hamburgi Deutsches Schauspielhaus és a berlini Schaubühne házi szerzője. Magyarul is játszott drámái: Push Up 1-3; Az arab éjszaka; Előtte-utána; Nő a múltból; Berlin, Greifswalder Strasse; Látogatás apánál; Az állatok birodalma; Golden Dragon. Ezekből négyet Bodolay Géza mutatott be először Magyarországon.
