Mesénk főhősét az emberiség örök misztériuma hajtja: létezik-e az Örökélet-Halhatatlanság országa? Királyfink hosszú útja során csodatevők segítségével végül célba ér. Sokáig mégsem tudja élvezni az időtlenséget, erős honvágya miatt visszatér meglátogatni apját, anyját.
Ám míg ő Halhatatlanság országában néhány napot tölt el, addig a földön több ezer esztendő szalad el. Ezért szüleit sem találhatja meg, s az elárvult királyfira ekkor rátalál még az öreg Halál is. Végül a Halhatatlanság országának királynője és a Halál küzd meg egymással a királyfiért...

The story of the Fountain of Bakhchisarai is set in motion by a romance recounting the reason for the khan's gloom.
