2014’s Silver Rose Ball featured a performance of Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier to mark the sesquicentenary of the composer’s birth. The 2015 carnival season was likewise crowned by a ball at the Opera House, this time as part of the Faust season, and last year the event was dominated by Shakespeare’s works and themes. Just as two years ago we highlighted the theme of sport, then that of science, and last year the world of commerce, this year it is the turn of those who protect us with arms. We’ll be inviting Hungary’s grandest personalities from this realm, along with our guest artists and Opera supporters.
As part of the Hungarian Season, János Háry will dress the festive programme in a partly combative and partly fairy-tale-like world, and it will also retain its charitable aim: we will be continuing our ambulance project. The next morning, we will once again host disadvantaged children for the “Breadcrumb Ball”, where they’ll be able to watch Engelbert Humperdinck’s fairy-tale opera Hansel and Gretel, all brought to them by the Klauzál Lions Club. After Vesselina Kasarova, Angela Gheorghiu and Plácido Domingo, the two guests of honour will be Ildebrando d'Arcangelo and Aleksandrs Antonenko.

Featuring: Ágnes Molnár, Zita Szemere, Viktória Mester, Atala Schöck, Erika Gál, Polina Pasztircsák, Levente Molnár, Gergely Boncsér and the Hungarian National Ballet, the Orchestra and the Chorus of the Hungarian State Opera

Conductor: Balázs Kocsár, principal musical director
Choreographer: Tamás Solymosi, ballet director
Director: Ferenc Anger, artistic director

Partner: BMW Group Hungary
