Panna nem félt szembeszállni a kor konvencióival, miszerint egy nő feladata a gyermekek nevelése és a háztartás vezetése. Tehetségének és a földesúri támogatásnak köszönhetően virtuóz hegedűsként nagy karriert futott be, megalapította az első cigánybandát, pipázott és férfiruhában járt. A romantikus, nótazenékkel kísért darab azt a nőt mutatja be, aki évszázadokra meghatározta a magyarországi cigány zenét, és a roma kultúra meghatározó alakja lett.

The story of the Fountain of Bakhchisarai is set in motion by a romance recounting the reason for the khan's gloom.
