„Bornemisza nyelve ma is elevenen hat fülre és agyra, régiségében nincsen semmi avas íz, csak olyan az, mint az a zamat, melyet a finom régi bornak a kor ad.” – veszi észre Schöpflin Aladár a múlt század elején.
Maga Bornemisza pedig így ajánlja negyedfélszáz évvel korábban az olvasók (az akkori kortárs nézők?) figyelmébe munkáját:
„Ez játékot kigyelmetek oly mulatságnak vélje, kibe emberi életnek módja jó erkölcsre igazittatik. Kiben meglátjátok az Görögországnak hatalmas királya és királyné asszonya mely röttenetesen undokságukért fizetnek. (…) Noha ez pogány írásból magyar nyelvre fordíttatott, de Szent Pál mondásaként, minden írások az mi hasznunkra írattak…”
Az előadás a Forrás Színház, az Evangélium Színház , a Veszprémi Petőfi Színház, a Duna Palota Nonprofit Kft, a Mikházi Csűrszínház Egyesület (Erdély) és a Zentai Magyar Kamaraszínház (Vajdaság) együttműködésében jön létre.
