Berecz András az első dalokat édesanyjától tanulta, aki a híres kunhegyesi táncos, tréfa és nótafa – Tanka Gábor – lányaként sok ilyet tudott. A volt rakodó segédmunkás, erdőművelő, útkarbantartó, embertársai örömét keresgélő énekes, mesemondó lett.

Moldvában, Felvidéken és Somogyban gyűjtött dalokat, történeteket és tréfákat, meséi a honát kereső szerelmes ember hallomásai, látomásai. Több lemezt, kazettát, CD-t, rádió- és televízió felvételt készített itthon, Európában, az USA-ban és Kanadában is, tanított magyar népzenét Kalotaszentkirályon, Jobbágytelkén, Sopronban, a toronto-i York egyetemen, kanadai, amerikai nyári zenei táborokban, Hollandiában magánkurzusokon. Mesét mondott tolmácsok segítségével kanadai, észt, francia, holland, olasz, egyiptomi közönségnek, jelenleg műfordítással is foglalkozik.
