Sam Peliczowski munkanélküli színész Manhattan legfelkapottabb éttermében intézi a telefonos foglalásokat. A vonal másik végén a legkülönfélébb emberek vetnek be mindent, csak hogy asztalt kapjanak. Ki hízelgéssel, ki fenyegetőzéssel, ki hisztit kivágva, ki magabiztosan. Sam sohasem veszti el türelmét, pedig neki sem könnyű, hisz minden álma, hogy végre övé legyen a nagy szerep és magányosan élő apjával is többet lehessen…
