Az élet nehéz, de a remény virágzik.
Sírva vigad a magyar. Alkoholizmus, munkanélküliség, öngyilkosság – nem kifejezetten komédiába illő témák. Azonban Székely Csaba olyan szeretettel és humorral fordul a szereplői felé, hogy könnyesre nevetjük magunkat az esetlenségükön és egyetlen problémamegoldó módszerükön, ami nem más, mint a pálinkás butykos.
Vajda Iván a bánya bezárása óta haldokló apjával él együtt, és tűri parancsolgatását, egyetlen barátja Csillag Mihály, a lecsúszott orvos, élete reménytelen és sivár. De ahogy a bányák falain, úgy itt is képes megjelenni a bányavirág (hegyikristály) a városból érkezett Ilonka, Iván féltestvére személyében. Ő maga az életöröm. Vajon ez a kirobbanó energia képes átformálni a közösség életét?
