The world premiere of The Golden Brush took place at the Hungarian State Opera House on 26 October 2013. This presentation of the life of the exalted painter Mihály Munkácsy using the tools of classical ballet by Hungary's master of the ballet d'action, Lilla Pártay, was a monumental undertaking. Speaking of her work prior to the premiere, the choreographer said, “It wasn't the paintings that I used as a starting point for developing the piece, but rather the biographical novel by Sándor Dallos, which shows in great deal what an incredibly gripping life Munkácsy had. In terms of dramaturgy, I felt that I couldn't find a better subject than this one to shape into dance.”
