„Szeretnék izgalmas lenni! Szeretnék szép lenni! Szeretnék, izé... szórakoztató lenni!" - kiállt fel a mesekönyv, ami (vagy aki?) éppen megszületik az író keze alatt. Megszületik, és csak kérdez, kérdez, ahogyan a gyerekek szoktak. Válaszokat keres. Segítségére vannak a földszinten lakó pupákok, a Tanító néni az első emeletről, a másodikról személyesen a Magyar Történelem, hogy minden titokra fény derüljön a harmadikon, ahol a mesekönyv írója és a könyv is lakik. Közben megtelik a mesekönyv, elmesélődnek a mesék a ház lakóiról, az emberek és a világ dolgairól.
