Korngold, the father of Hollywood composition created a tuneful and sweepingly lively quasi-film music based on the story by Paul Schott. At the centre of the story is Paul who is mourning his young wife in a morbid way. He gets to know a dancing-girl who is hauntingly similar to his dead lover and this creates an avalanche of emotions. Only the title of this tumultuous and monumental opus is gloomy.

Die_tote_Stadt is like a late Puccini opera orchestrated by Richard Strauss. The tunes which are full of passion, depth and beauty, will be familiar to audiences who have seen Star Wars or the Pirates of the Caribbean.

Die_tote_Stadt has already been a great success at the New York Metropolitan, and on the opera stages of Cologne, Salzburg and London. Two years ago it was performed in Debrecen and it is now aiming to charm the Miskolc audience.
