The greatest Hungarian mezzo-soprano of the last decades to achieve an international career is Ildikó Komlósi. At the same time, since February 1983, that is, for more than 40 years, she has also sung on the stages of the Hungarian State Opera. Her international career began with her victory at the 1986 Pavarotti Singing Competition, and she had the good fortune to debut alongside the legendary singer in Verdi’s Requiem. She has been a recurring guest artist at the world’s greatest opera houses and is one of the most accomplished interpreters of Judith in Bluebeard’s Castle, both within and beyond Hungary. In 2016 she received the title of Kammersängerin, followed by the Kossuth Prize, and by the time of this publication she has performed nearly 300 opera shows in nearly 30 roles at the OPERA alone. She therefore has much to choose from when looking back on the past four decades. At her unique evening performance, audiences can once again expect a programme that is both special in repertoire and deeply personal.

Our offer

György Selmeczi / János Vajda Royal Highness / The Verdict World premiere

This ballet's plot is inspired by The Corsair, a famous verse written in 1814 by Lord Byron, who towered over an entire generation of English Romantic poets.

There are evenings when our Opera House cannot perform because rehearsals are ongoing on stage until the evening. There are audience members who can only afford to hear their favourite pieces with a discount. And there are works that, although very popular, cannot be staged every season due to the congestion of productions.
